Horny goat weed (epimedium), is an well-known aphrodisiac herb and is often considered at the top of the list for sexual dysfunction in men and women. It contains phytoestrogens (plants estrogen-like compounds). Icariin is one of these phytoestrogens. It is a phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5) inhibitor, allowing enhanced blood circulation in penis tissues, like Viagra® (sildenafil) and other similar prescription impotence medications. In a study for Horney Goat Weed treating men's impotence, 15 of 20 healthy men responding positively, and for 7 of the 15 men already on Viagra also had positive effect.
